Trade: RIA M1903 for HRA M1 Garand
Hello Gentlemen and Merry Christmas,
I have a trade possibly coming up and I wanted some input. A few months ago I traded a Rock Island M1903 off to a friend of mine for essentially $1350 worth of modern firearms. Afterwards, I acquired an HRA M1 Garand which I believe I have made a post about already but I digress. My friend now wants to give me the 1903 back and $200 cash for my Garand. I will list everything I know about them both and as many pics as I can. (My pics of the 1903 are limited but if any of you need any more just let me know and I will ask him.)
M1 Garand:
From what I have gathered it is post-Korean War HRA receiver. It has essentially all other Springfield parts. The op-rod is uncut, the stock has handling marks but is otherwise good. The bore appears to be quite nice. The barrel was evidently replaced with a 1963 Springfield. I am not sure if this means that it was arsenal refurbished in 1963 or if it is just a mix-match. I basically paid $1000 cash for it.

M1903:
The M1903 is overall very nice. It has a great stock and great parkerization. The bore is probably between fair and good. The barrel is dated SA 12-44. I believe the year is 1919 so it is a safe shooter. Here are my concerns which I never really resolved when I owned it to begin with and I'm hoping you all can be of some assistance: First, how can I tell if it is matching, aside from the barrel? Second, What is this M1903 truly worth? Third, how would I tell if it had undergone any kind of rebuilds. If any more pics are needed, I'll let my friend know and he will send them. Again I already have traded this rifle to my friend for $1350 worth of guns, however in retrospect, I feel as though that was an overvaluation. (Of course now I am on the other side of the deal here.) He just really wanted it and made me that offer, so for him that $1350 is the benchmark.

I'd do the trade simply because M1s are easier to find than 1903 rifles. Of course your 1903 has undergone rebuilds, it has a WW2 barrel on it. Hard to say what else was swapped out by well meaning owners since ww2 also.

Seems relatively fair. Personally I would do the trade and put the 200$ into ammo or a bayonet or something, but that is just me.

Unfortunately, someone offered him 1400 cash so he took it. He might end up wanting to buy my Garand but we'll see. I may instead hold on to it.
