Would love to help Jon, but without some images or a link very difficult

I think he means this one... Authentic Canvas COVER, Drop Case Mosin Nagant, WW2 edition | eBay
I have my doubts though. Doubt they worried about that.

Looks like covers made for something else, not Mosins. Saw similar ones for soviet heavy machine gun barrels some years ago.

Thanks BAR, that's exactly the one I was asking about. I don't know how to put links in my post and I was afraid to put the picture up because of copyright infringement.I have never seen any of these in World War II photos and was just wondering if these are truly real or not or even if they existed at all back then.

My thought is...if you look at their paratroops activity in WW2, their idea was to drop them off the wings of slow low flying aircraft into the snow banks. The ones that survived would be enough to do the job. Rifle cases...?

Jon,
Totally agree with Jim, knowing a bit about my PARA counterparts worldwide and what they used for better or worse, I would put my money on these being made in India sadly, as they certainly never used a proper one in their WW2 operational role. There were however, very basic canvas bags made for the Dragunov sniper rifles much later.

I knew India made a ton of fake American World War 2 items but I had no idea they faked Russian ones as well.

They will make and modify anything. They were renowned for it in terms of rebuilding many .303 rifles after WW2 and the conflicts that befell them between Pakistan and India.
They make absolutely stunning compasses too and all things brass nautical, but for Gods sake don't follow them

True Gil, My eldest son picked up an Indian Compass, very well made...….for the Northern Hemisphere.
The needle registered True South, just a bit confusing.....made backbearings easy though
