Arlington import
What can you tell me about the arlington ordinance m1 carbine imports. I have heard a lot about the poor quality of blue sky imports. Is arlington the same way? Are the marks large and obvious like blue sky?
-thanks

ARL ORD is a tiny marking under the barrel. I bought a removed barrel once with a light striking and was able to remove it pretty well. That wouldn't work well with barrels from IBM, Underwood, Inland because they're not smooth like Rockola and Winchester. I turned a $100 barrel into a one I was proud to put on a receiver as a collectible.

The Arl Ord barrel stamping is so tiny, it looks just like a scratch. Inspect the rifle as you would any other used rifle. The Arl Ord M1 Carbine I shot recently was a typical mixmaster, with a bright bore and very little barrel wear.

What is the reason for changing or turning the barrel to remove the stamping? Even the hardest struck Blue Sky marking I have seen shot OK. You can't see it when you are shooting. Some are hidden by the stock. Maybe the aesthetics aspect when sitting in a rack? Guys say they leave the Bavarian markings thinking they increase the value. And it has proven true over other imports. Most likely it's because there are too many and you can't remove them. There is no doubt that an unmarked carbine is worth more then an import, even the Bavarian marked examples.
My guess would be "most" are trying to increase the value for a future sale by masking where it has been. Maybe on a harder to find receiver. Right/wrong, there are many differing opinions. Is it different then other parts swapping? Say a straight verses dogleg hammer, leaf verses adj sight, a stock without the FAT stamp? After all, the barrel is just a part.
I have maybe ten import marked carbines. Why, well some were just too good a price to pass up. When I get a carbine with an import marked barrel, I leave it that way. It doesn't matter to me what the condition of the rest of the weapon looks like, it's brought back, so be it. The vast majority are just shooter quality anyway. $600-$800 range in my area depending on other factors. When I go to sell them I will let it be known.
For me, it's just part of the history of that weapon.

Import marks are just another day in the history of the firearm not to mention the law as passed in 1968. I know I'll never convince the so called "purists", but it's simply the way it is.

I have several imports too. Blue Sky and EXPO. Ugly markings. But there they are. ARL ORD is almost nothing.
