Engraved LP08, fake?
Hello,
I have been offered this LP08, but I have many suspicions about it, specifically the lack of maker and the sloppy serial numbers just to start. But I know there are many Luger experts here that will have a much better idea of what is going on, so I would appreciate any input on this.
Thanks,
Jim

That is one heavily customized Artillery Mauser. The lack of a makers maker or odd S/N are the least of your problems with this one. All collector value is gone IMHO unless it was a gift to the Kaiser from the Nazi party or something like that. I like it but, it is what it is..

It's not a fake LP.08, but has had a terrible engraving job done on it at some time after it served it's time in the military. Manufacturer was DWM. Don't waste your money on this one.

I will add only that there was a trend at one time to try to up (said with sarcasm) the value of old, heavily pitted pistols by fully engraving them and pushing them as 'unique' and 'special'. Personally, ... I'll say no more.

Well, you all pretty much confirmed my thoughts. Thanks to you all.

The analysis above is quite correct. `Nuff said!
