    No 5 Flash Hider Removal?

Which side do you punch the retaining pins out from, L to R or R to L?

Can't remember but it's been answered on here a hundred times before together with details of the nickel press tool insert used to press the barrel off.

Mine are Left to Right. The left ends of the pins are approximately 0.122” and the right ends about 0.139”.

Use a press to get the pins out, not a punch. A press less likely to damage the pins or the flash hider and you’re going to need a press anyway to get the flash hider off.

On the topic of these pins, does anyone know where i can get a few. They are usually 4-0 & are sometimes 3-0 presumably when they've come off and been reinstalled. Im not keen on buying the 1000 id need to from a commercial supplier.

They are easy to make from drill stock steel. You can use the poor man’s lathe method if you don’t have access to a real lathe. All you need is a reversible high-speed drill and a sander. Put the drill in your vice and run it in reverse. Sand a little and check often. You will have them done in no time.

Don’t forget to use a tapered reamer if you’re cutting new grooves in the barrel. If you don’t have the taper reamer, the poor man’s way is to use 3 or 4 drill bits, decreasing in size to make “steps.”
