Police guns in New Zealand
I have two soft covered books which I purchased from the Police Musem in New Zealand. The first book covers handguns used by the police from 1840 to 1990. The second, carbines for the same period.
Very interesting, with regard to the handguns, mostly british were used, although, Browning's were avaible and Smith and Wesson's also. The most interesting one in the book is a four barrel, .30 rimfire calibre, breech loading pocket pistol from Sharps, c.1863!
The book about carbines inculdes the Lee Enfield Carbine , theThompson and the Lanchester, Sten and Stirling sub machine guns..
I belive that you can order these books from the publisher,
South Pacific Armoury' New Zealand.
32 Wellwood Terrace,
Te Awarunga.
New Zealand.
ISBN Numbers are 0 908873 01 8 for "Carbines and Police in New Zealand" and 0 908873 00 X for "Handguns and Police in New Zealand"

I was under the impression N/Z didn't allow firearms within there borders? What else would a guy from New Jersey think. I didn't even think you could have them north of the border for anything other than game harvesting until I hooked up with this sight. It was indeed a pleasure to find fellow collectors up there-SDH

Actually you can even own fully auto weapons in NZ. You just can't shoot them anywhere!
There is no longer registeration of rifles although handguns are more controlled. The police are unarmed, but have guns available.
