Best of the Three - MKII 3* rifle
I totally disassembled and cleaned my Ross MKII 3* rifle over the weekend. It turned out great, the only disappointing part is the markings on the stock are mostly gone. Sanded likely by the US Military. The only thing left to do is partly disassemble the rifle and put the single shot cutoff back in the magazine.

In the pistol grip area you should be able to find US markings. If these are sanded off as well, it isn't likely to have been sanded by the US (they would not remove their own markings).

They are there, stamped US and ordnance flaming cannonball

I very much doubt the military would have sanded off the serial number, model and date of manufacture. In all likelihood, that was done after the rifle was sold out of service.

I suppose, but whomever did it, did a thorough job.

An update on my MKII 3*, if one looks carefully you can make out the 1909 date of manufacture, serial number, and the 2 alphabet suffix on the stock
