    serial numbers help, please

I recently picked up two series 70 Colts, and I would like to know when they were manufactured. They're 95-98% and going into the safe. I don't have the pix thing together yet or I'd show 'em. Any help will be appreciated.

    Combat Commander ser # 70BS28283

    Government Model ser # 62039G70

As far as I can tell, your Combat Commander was made in 1975, and your Government Model was made in 1978. I may not be exactly right, but these dates should be close.

    thanks Rob

Thanks Rob. Year of origin is close enough for me. You know, I didn't used to think the Series 70s were all that big a deal. Nice, yeah, but not exceptional. However, when I see what's being mfg'd these days and the prices asked, the ol' 70s are looking a whole lot better.
I try telling my wife that about me and she sez "honey, you ain't no Gold Cup". sigh
