Colt WW2 Magazine Question
When did Colt switch from pinned base to welded base magazines for the 1911A1? I'm not referring to Colt subcontractors, but rather the Colt unmarked mags. Thanks!

The answer is the same for both...late 1942 to early 1943.
When Colt went to using welded base magazines manufactured by Little, Scovill and Risdon, they ceased to manufacture pinned base magazines.
Newly manufactured magazines after WWII ended were welded base. Some may speak of post-WWII pinned base mags, but they were not manufactured then. A few may have been shipped then, but even that is doubtful. Colt wasn't holding pinned base magazines for a rainy day. It was just a magazine to them. They used what they had, with few exceptions, until they were gone.
