Berthier M-1890 carbine
I recently picked up this really fantastic condition 1890 Berthier carbine. The gentleman I got it from, got it from a family friend who brought it back from WWII. I really don't know the details of French rifles. Any insights would be appreciated. I have read the excellent post by 1886lebel.
Thanks

One question I have is there is no provision for a cleaning rod on my rifle. The front barrel band does have the recess for it, but the wood does not, just the bayonet lug. Does this look right?
Thanks

That is the nicest one I've ever seen unless it's been reworked. Cleaning rods were phased out with the wood channel being filled. Never having a wood channel to start with seems odd for one without the additional magazine for 5 rounds.
