bren gun combo tool questions
I have the Mk1 bren gun combo tool and I am trying to figure out what are all the things it can do
so far I know that the bar on the side is for adjusting the gas the screw drivers are for screws and digging into the wood when they slip. I am assuming the spanner part under the hammer is for taking the tube off the lower.....

You're right about the return spring tube spanner but not so right about digging the screwdriver blades into the wood! And THAT was the problem with it. Give that tool to the Bren section and the first thing they want to do is to use it. And use it they did. But used it without properly supporting the butt slide. The return spring is tight on the butt slide so the Bren barrel (the Mk1 type with a stepped taper) as a long tommy bar, they start to unscrew the..................
Anyway, to save me writing all this guff again, It's all been written down previously in this forum.
Armourers take the return spring off properly. Enthusiastic amateurs distort the return spring tube

thanks Peter
I did my best search effort and found nothing on the bren tool. I did find lots of information and pictures of the lee enfiled tool(s)

Anyone out there bring it all up again? But you've got the gist of it. The large forked screwdriver was originally to unscrew the buffer plate nut but this was also very tight to prevent it coming undone as Armourers had previously done it up with the SCREWDRIVER, stockbolt! So the crunchies broke the hard screwdriver blades off!
We say that you give the crunchies sufficient for field stripping and NOTHING more
