    m48 Sniper-Repro's

My never ending hunt for an original shootable sniper or faithful repro thats decently affordable is ongoing.

I own a k98 and never paid much thought to the m48 rifles untill talking to some co-workers who where in Bosnia for some time with the Military.

Whats the basic history of these sniper rigs and whats to be expected of the rifle and scope?

Also if reproing one how hard is a Zrak scope to find??

kebco LLC sells the scopes and mounts, so making one up isn't tough. P&A distributing also had 'em I think.

Although I no longer own it, I had one M48A converted to a period sniper configuration and it shot really well out to 300 meters.

I have seen some board discussions about sticky bolts, but I never experienced it myself. Perhaps others here that have experienced it, can speak to that issue.

Nice rifle badger, was it bought built or did you do it?

I checked the Kebco website it isn't working and not sure how to find P&A.

There is a rifle on gunnutz buts its not an m48 or 48a even. Looks like maybe a reworked yugo k98?

As far as correctness goes what rifle would have most likely been used? I've heard all sorts of stories of home made firearms in Bosnia so is there any "correct"?

Also what sort of price range to build or buy is reasonable?

With claven2's advice and buying the Zrak and mounts from Ken at Kebco, I had it built up into a sniper by Jason at Gunco in Ottawa. I don't know why Ken's site isn't working any longer. Here's Ken's email address that I used to use:

    info@kebcollc.com

Here's a site that may be of interest, plus there's two other sites linked to in the photo montage page of my old M48 sniper. Did you notice those? They reference sites that talk about authentic versions with pics and more background.

    Hope this helps....

Thanks, I need all the resources I can dig up. I'm considering doing a little wood art on them, very much like some photos I've seen from Serbia, It would give them more of a field type of look, keeping with personal tradition, I'm still going to put my own personal initials on them. I have a lot of fun doing mock-ups and many come out just the originals, but they should never be past off as one, gives good gunsmiths bad names -SDH

Kebco doesn't have any scopes right now he didn't mention if he plans to have more.

Any other places that deal with Zrak? P&A is on back order I've e-mailed them to see if they plan to have more and when.

I'm finding the Zack scopes are limited to 1,000 units a year for export and the word is getting out about the guns so, hold your breath guys. I found some pics of sniper and regular rifles with art work on them most of which was unit related. These guns looked very, very cool. If I run over them again, I'll post them for you guys-SDH

Yeah I seem to have stumbled upon them a little to late... no one seems to have Zrak scopes
