unchambered Barrel?
A local shop gave me a barrel that is un-finished with light pitting on the outside but looks perfect on the inside (very shinny clear rifling), I noticed it wasn't chambered yet but has "SA D6563448 1 53 MD34" on the side. I'm more of an 03 Springfield guy so I don't know what I've got. Anyone have information on this? Is it worth anything? Thanks for any help.

It was probably part of the residue of production. When production stops, parts in progress are not always finished, they are just sold off as scrap. I would be a bit careful of a barrel like that, though. It could also have been rejected for some very good reason, possibly having to do with safety, such as discovery of a manufacturing flaw. If you plan to chamber it and install it, have it checked out first (magnaflux, x-ray).

Way back in the late 60's to early 70's, I was up to SA when the museum first opened (before the NPS took over) and was talking to some of the people running it.
One told me the Springfield city dump was the recipient of a lot of SA parts and small machine tools that were refused by the college on the SA grounds.
What a waste, eh?
