My Mark V?
Hi...
I looked over your info on the #1 Mk5's and have a question. My rifle has only a 3 digit serial# and manufacture date of 1924. How can this be if Mk5 rifles were only produced thru 1924 and 20,000 were made? Could the receiver been made much earlier and serial numbered at that time and then after completion of the entire rifle had the 1924 date stamped on it?
The Brits still have their "own" way of doing things so I guess my end of production low serial number rifle should come as no surprise!!
Thanks

Without seeing your rifle, it would be hard to speculate. Is there a letter prefix, for example? If so, that may explain the low number.

Hey! I found an A prefix stamped above the serial # on the receiver ring and on the bolt handle. There is an X above a 95 stamped to the right side of the letter A. Directly below the serial# is a arrow, then below that is stamped EFD and below that is 10. Will try to get some pics on here. The stampings are quite small so I might not be able to photo them well enough to really see. I used a jewelers loupe to be able to see them.
