Model 97 Trench SRS hit?
This past week I picked up a Winchester Model 97 trench gun, serial number 676401.
Canfield's book on Combat Shotguns lists this serial number as being with the Shanghai Volunteer corps in 1934.
Can anyone verify this? I suppose I need to subscribe to SRS to get the piece of paper on it.

You can contact Bruce directly to verify where he got the info. It could be from the SRS. But he also obtained info from other Government documentation.

WRA#676401 model 97/riot 3/01/34 SHANGHAI VOLUNTEER CORPS
The equipment for the American Company of the Shanghai Volunteer Corps was furnished by the U.S.War Department and inventoried semi annually and turned in to the Consul General
at the American Consular Office at Shanghai,China.
Documented, 250, 1903 Rifles were turned in along with 124,200 rounds of 30 cal. ammo.
I have only read turn in reports to the War Department,my understanding was that like was issued back.Lewis guns,BARs and 1911 pistols were also inventoried.for some reason Shotguns were not inventoried before 12/31/29,so their serial number inventory was after that.
Respectfully submitted
