    I read something once about the D on the barrel but I can't remember what it means now.

    As for the D on the barrel shank, it refers to the barrel throat opened for Finnishicon D166 cartridge.

    Nice rifle, I got an M39 for Christmas too, yours is in better shape overall (mine's on a Tula 1986 receiver) but mine shoots like a dream, hope you find the same of yours.

    Break her down and look under the rear tang, might have a manufacturer mark and a date. Still has an imperial eagle, could be an antique receiver.
