    No 4 stock nail

    Hello
I want to replicate the rear brass stock nail for a no4 rifle I'm cobbling wooden parts together for.
Whats the best way to peen a small brass rod over so that its well formed on either side of the tie plate.

    Thanks for any suggestions-Brian

I believe he means the rear stock pin holding the tie strap at the wrist, just bad terminology, I believe brass rod was for No1s, No4s had a steel pin, however I stand to be corrected by anyone more knowledgeable, without having done one I would hold one side on a dolly and peen the other, cheers Rich

I hit the end in the middle with a center punch. Then spread it out with a small ball peen hammer and then a flat drift punch. Leave them long so you have a bit of metal to work with and once you've spread it out you can dress it up a bit to look good.
