Despite the Hysteria....
Well, I have been fairly successful rounding up reloading supplies for my M4gery. I have thousands of rounds of brass, and about 1200 small rifle primers. My dies are coming in the mail from Midway, as we speak (I already had 223 dies for years, but can't find them!) Found 2 pounds of IMR 4198 for $30 a pound at a local shop, and am on the list for 1,000 55 grn FMJBT projectiles from Midway USA, due the first part of April. I prefer the 55s, since I shoot M193 LC for duty ammo, and I have a 1/12 retro 602 clone build that loves the 55s! I should be able to load M193 for about $0.23 to $0.25 a round.
I know there are more popular powders (WW748 and H335, etc.) for 223, but couldn't find them anywhere. IMR 4198 is sorta forgotten, though, as it is one of the original powders used for 5.56 reloading. It seems 21-21.5 of the IWR 4198 with the 55 grain pill is the way to go. (30 years ago, I used 4198 to load some 223s, but I have no clue what load I used. Just remember it being exceptionally clean burning, and that my 16" SP1 carbine loved it because it is on the faster side.
?
Anyone have a pet 4198 load with 55 grainers
