"T" to Range More Practice
The 1943 "T" took its owner to the range to explain how it works. We used Reloader 15 and Reloader 17 with 180 grain Sierra Spitzers and 174 SMK'S. I also used 6 rounds of 180 Prvi to investigate scope. I seated the Spitzers .050 off the lands with 45 grains Rel 17 this left small gap so not a compressed load. The 174 Smk seated at .085 off and left space in the case. The Reloader 15 was similar with good case capacity and no compressing. I checked runout on all loads and corrected to +- .001. All cases were once fired Remington neck sized. The first target is 100 yards Prvi P to check 0 and test scope deflection. The paster is a 3 inch square. The scope is a Mark 1 and seems to have 2 moa so it would be "uncorrected". The next target shows two groups the lower 5 shots being R-17 180 Sierra and 45 grains powder, upper group of 6 R-15 174 SMK. Target 3 is foam board, flat black paint at 300 yards 16 inch circle.. Sighters are at bottom 7 o'clock and the group on left is R-17 45g 180 Spitz, On right same powder and 174 Smk. Next target is same repainted R-15 174 SMK 43 grains. Sights were not changed. I still can't keep same sight picture throughout and the rifle really shoots better than me. I shot and painted at 300 all the time trying to find same spot hold for scope. Tired eyes and older glass a small obstacle. I installed a slip on butt pad while I was shooting. This rifle requires a firm weld or the scope will bite back. The last target is 600 yards and is 35 inches across. R-15 SMK 174 and 43 grains powder. The wind has come up but the vertical is good. I noticed switching between loads and redialing the scope for appropriate 0 the bullet strikes changed so I would hazard to say the return to 0 on this scope has some lash. Next time I will focus on R-15 and 174 SMK so dialing question should be resolved. Anyway a fun day at range. The last 4 pictures are some surplus stuff my friend, Krag and 03-A3 shooter, had and since I won't shoot anybody have any ideas? The rounds are all pre 1950 and I have some spent brass also, milsurp.
