Unusual scope mount on Evil Bay

Have come accross this on Evil Bay and it seems like a bit of a hybrid no4 scope mount but is on to much of an angle for the standard scope from a no4T, can any one shed some light.
    Regards

I don't think its a production scope mount, but rather - as the vendor hints - a one-off adaptor plate someone has made that will support a military theodolite bracket. I.e. someone has come across a nice brass survey telescope and had a crack at using it as a side-mount telescopic sight. I may be wrong, but I have seen one rifle with a similar arrangement.

Aussie made Field 2 piece mount, very common still use some. That one is on a No1, there was one for No4s 5s as well. have both.

Dont know when Field started manufacture but much earlier than the 70s. The mount was the most common used on 22hornet conversions of No1s. My father had one on a Lithgowicon 303 for roo and emu shooting before i was born . I know thats along time ago.

I can say that they were selling in the mid 80s .. I have to fess up about bubbaing a no1 MK3* with one when I was young. I still have both the mount and the rifle, though they are separated.

Ah, I see now. FIELD is the name of the maker/converter and not field as in Field Workshops! I was thinking that it was a semi official army mod done at Field level. Silly me!

Definitely a commercial mount manufacturer from AU. On the weekend I will try to dig out the mount and show what the 'kit' looks like. I saw one go for a stupid amount on ebay a while ago. They are a bubba object in this day and age of no drill mounts.

I always like the field mounts, theres a litle bit of Australianicon fire arm history right there. If i had a sporterised .303 that had a scope it would have to be with a field, you know, keeping it with gear of the times.
