The serial number P291xxA is consistent with the number block assigned to the Royal Ordnance Factory (Fazakerley) in England, The "R" something "F" on the left butt socket is "ROF" for Royal Ordnance Factory. The 42 is the year - 1942.
When you say its has been "sporterized" has the barrel been cut back or are the bayonet lugs still present? Finding the parts for the No.4 rifle are relatively easy but if the metal has been modified in any way, you are best leaving it as it is.
Based on being your grandfather's rifle, it must have great personal value to you.
I would personally restore it to original configuration if the metal work is not modified

What you have in your barrel, without any shadow of doubt whatsoever, is a bulge............ That means that the barrel is effectively scrap.
But not quite worthless because if it's a bulge at the muzzle but otherwise perfect elsewhere, then you or someone handy with a lathe can turn it into a passable replacement for a shot-out No5 rifle barrel

Thanks for the replys. The barrel is still original, with the lugs. I even have the bayonet. The only wood left is under the action, like other sporterized enfields. There is a funny pin with a clip attached for the sling and the pin goes in and touches the bottom of the barrel.
I will continue to see if I can get it to shoot half decent. If not it will just be a memento of him.
I ordered a 314 lee resizing die because the barrel slugged out to 316 to the bottom of the grooves. I might just have to buy .314 dia bullets. I don't give up easy.
