F/N Hi-power { Charles Daly knockoff } ?
Not sure this is the right place to ask , but here goes , anyway :
A good friend just recently purchased a Charles Daly Hi-Power 9mm knockoff of the F/N { Browning } Hi-power in like new condition, with 2 mags, but no box or paperwork. This is almost an exact copy { there are others such as FEG, FM, etc.} of this great 9mm pistol and seems to shoot very well. The serial number is low { # HPM 0177 } and we know that Charles Daly only made these for a short time . They have since gone out of business and we're wondering if anyone has any additional info on them { how many C/Daly's were manufactured, for how long , etc } and if there is any collector value for them ? We have had very little luck searching online.
Any/all help would be greatly appreciated , Thanks !!

The Charles Daly name has been used to import all kinds of firearms from all around the world over the years. I think your friends Hi-Power was imported from Turkey by Charles Daly. It could have been from somewhere else but I do know some of their firearms did come in from Turkey including shotguns and pistols.

No import markings on the gun, but has Charles Daly on the left side of the slide . The original owner said he threw out the box { sheesh ! } and paperwork, after he bought the gun. My buddy bought it at a local gun show, from that original owner for $425.00 .

Well, as an update to this thread :
My buddy was unhappy with the way the almost new condition Charles Daly Hi-Power shot ...he put a couple hundred rounds of all types of 9mm ammo { his reloads, my reloads, store bought of 2 different makers } and the gun would not cycle or eject . He stripped the gun gun down, and "mic'd it out...barrel was out of whack . He decided to try a used barrel out of one of his other Hi-Powers ...taa daa, problem solved..no hiccups .
Gonna keep the gun, and just find a good , used barrel for it .

How was it out of whack.?
I have a commercial Mk3 that acts up once in a while for varies reasons, shooting lead cast bullets is a big no no in mine lead and carbon build up real fast on the bolt face particularly under the extractor which causes all sorts of malfunctions.

Barrel was "mic'd " and found to be egg shaped and "out of round ". I have a used H/P barrel coming priority mail that we found on Gunbroker and hope to have it by Saturday . He didn't want to sink a bundle in a $350 gun, so he decided to go this route . Will keep ya posted as to the out come.
