    Just for fun - SMLE

    I think someone paid a lot of money for a Khyber Pass Special. Can you spot some clues?

    A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Lots of pics, but did I miss seeing any one of the 50 or so, showing a close up under the bolt handle?

    Regards,
    Doug

    Wonkey front nosecap, the rear sight protector has odd machining, one single marking on the knoxform...it does claim it's a Ishapore though...

    Additionally;

    Instead of a series of holes, the receiver gas vent is two holes connected by a slot.
    The inner band screw is located too far back.
    The outer band is stamped EED-I've seen that before.
    The buttplate is way too thick.
    The stock and disc markings are silly.

    It would be interesting to get a closer look at this one, but not for that kind of cash.

    We've talked about these before, I'd still like to have a rack of this sort of examples. There's been some interesting rifles appear from Long Lees and Martinis to these. I'd like to get them cheap too though.
    Regards, Jim
