Exclamation Lee Enfield .22 Hornet Mount

    Hi All,
Just looking for some advice on what mount would fit the holes drilled in this Lithgowicon .22 Hornet SMLE conversion.
    Regards,
    Sam.

Hi Sam. Most of the Lithgowicon hornets which are actually Slazenger model 24's converted by Lithgow were fitted with Field Side mounts. Field being the brand name. As far as I know they are long out of production but you might find a good second hand one. It's possible it was drilled for something else though. I thought the Field mounts only had two retaining screws but your receiver seems to have 3 holes. You might need to do a bit more digging but I'd start by looking into the Field mounts and see if that's what fits. I have the same rifle by the way, only mine is all original and has never had a scope fitted. I sometimes wish it had a scope but I can't bring myself to drill holes in it.

I have one of the steel "interface" plates on the desk in front of me. I suspect it came off a "Hornet", because a previous owner has ground some "extra clearance" for the special "external" ejector system used in these. Once fitted, it would be pretty hard to see the "handiwork".

There are three countersunk hole to accommodate the fixing screws and two threaded holes to which the actual "mount /rings" assembly is attached. The catch is that from a quick visual, the "interface" to suit your rifle is slightly longer than the one here.

Try asking around some of the older gun shops for "Field" side-mount bits and pieces. Most of them use steel for the "interface / adapter" plate and the ring / mount" set is usually some sort of machined aluminium casting.

    Cheers,
    Bruce

    Hi Bruce,
    Thanks for the advice!
I will have a look around, never seen so many holes in a receiver before and will see what I can drum up!
    Regards,
    Sam.
