Internet Explorer Version 8 browser problems using new Quartermaster Stores
We've been getting reports from Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 8 (IE8) users, that when they enter our new Enthusify Quartermaster Stores (click here) area to view ads,it messes up their forum display screen and it looks like this. IE8 users represent about 35% of browser usage by type on our site.
The problem reported is very obvious. The moment an IE8 user clicks on any link to enter our Enthusify Quartermaster Stores (click here), which is a separate web site altogether, the tabs on the top navigation bar end up as three long tab bars that stretch across the entire browser display.

I haven't (as yet), had reports about IE7 (6%) or IE9 (58%), so if any of you can test to see if the same problem exists there, it would be appreciated.
So, if you are one who experiences this problem, click on the menu item at the top of the browser bar called "Tools". It will drop down and probably show an item called "Compatibility View". You'll probably see that it has become checked and if you click on it to un-check it, that will probably fix your problem temporarily, until the next time you go to the Quartermaster Stores web page. You might also want to check the item in that "Tools" drop down box titled "Compatibility View Settings" and if you see our milsurps.com site listed there, you should "Remove" it, as that mode does not work with our site.

I have reported it to the Enthusify software developers to fix. For some reason, when a user of IE8, or perhaps other IE verions, enters the QM Stores screen, their software is turning ON Microsoft's compatibility mode which is not needed for our site and when on, screws up our site. In the meantime, if you go into the QM Stores to look at ads, once you're done and return to the main Milsurps forums, just repeat that un-check of "Compatibility View" process I mentioned above and that will fix the display.
I have not seen this problem with FireFox and Safari web browsers, which I have tested myself.
Thanks for your support …
Regards,
Doug

Update ....
I'm logged into the web site using Internet Explorer Version 9 (IE9) operating with Windows 7 and there is no issue with that version as described in the previous post ...

That odd header is what is always shows on a friend's computer. A minor annoyance compared to some previously! (BTW, Firefox on his computer was worse! Slow and assorted wierdnesses.)

I've dome some more testing and found the IE8 oddness with the QM Stores screen seems to be random. I can't make it happen every time. Reported to Enthusify and their programmers are looking at it.
I use FireFox version 16.0.1 and it's far superior to any version of IE on all my computers. Members report Google Chrome is a great browser, but I haven't a lot of personal experience with it....

Well, how about that? Turned off "compatability" thingie at the top of the page and this computer is "mo' better"! The button is right next to the refresh and address bar buttons, so it's easy to see how it might get activated. Lovely Jovely. whether the QM page is still wonky, I haven't the foggiest. Trying not to blow up more cash at the moment...

I mentoned this in another thread, but I thought it was also appropriate here...
As part of testing our new Quartermaster Stores environment, as well as Google's new PageSpeed service, I installed Google's Chrome browser.
It worked fine with out site, but I was astonished as to how incredibly FAST their browser is!!!
I had no idea it was that quick and I'm giving serious consideration to changing over to it as my browser standard. It blew both FireFox 16.0.1 and IE9 right out of the water and the Google Chrome page was finished rendering, while the FireFox and IE9 pages weren't 3/4 and 1/2 done respectively. That's one heck of an improvement ...
So, give it a try and see what you think. It was a simple install and it even imports the existing "bookmarks" from your current browser.

Doug
