Yes, these things ARE addictive.

I spent several years on a ridiculously-tiny disability pension. Actually, I was qualified for Full Disability but I am the wrong colour (white) so they put me on welfare instead: pays less than half as much..... and I was at the bottom of that scale, too, because I refused to "work the system" as most seem to do. But I still managed to put aside $50 a month for my toys.

That really comes in handy when somebody dumps an 1867 Snider Mark III in a local shop and asks for offers. I paid what I had saved over 3 months and brought it home: an 1867 Snider which HAD to have come to Canada in the first half of that year, simply because it is marked to the Nova Scotia Militia, an organisation which ceased to exist when Nova Scotia became a part of Canada on July 1, 1867. Nice bore, too; it will be at the range later this Summer.

Same thing exactly with absolutely the nicest shop-converted Long Lee I have ever seen, an 1897 Sparkbrook, of all things, with South African markings and British markings both which was sportered about 1920. It retains about 95% of its 1920 bluing job and is utterly gorgeous. And that LOOOONG barrel just sets it apart from anything else at the range.

Yes, I'd say you did pretty well on that swap!

But then, any SERIOUS gun collector is only half-sane, anyway!

He's having fun. The stupid thing is that it's now where I intend on putting machine tools. So I hope he gets it reasonably mobile before long.

That would have been an option, but I've had it since the eighties, have driven it probably less than 100 times, and it has been doing nothing for the past 14 or so years except decay or run up storage costs. It was the first, but it was also the last of the Mustangs in my "corral".

Of my swaps, this one was a little difficult for sentimental reasons, but far less involved and convoluted than others! We've had some four way deals that nobody could untangle after the fact...

Oh I completely understand hence the "My Wife Would Kill Me". I have unfortunately let three irreplaceable cars get away from me so keeping the ones I've got has become a challenge. Its way easier to come home with a new Firearm than a new Hot Rod.

I traded a hatbadge collection for a Marlin rifle in 38/357. I traded the rifle for a roof on my front porch. The carpenter sold the rifle for $600 cash to a mutual friend and then bought a nail gun with the money from the rifle. I still have the porch roof. The mutual friend is thrilled with the gun. The carpenter got divorced and had to sell the nail gun. Is that what you guys are talking about??

Very much so!

In the '80s there was a really accurate and fun Stevens Favorite .22 rifle that was used as the "deal maker". We swapped it around 8-10 times between 4 or 5 of us before it managed to "vanish". I've never seen another quite like it.

I swapped a redhead for a blonde way back in the day. That was a "crazy" swap as the redhead was most certainly certifiable (though a lot of fun).

In the end, ended up with a brunette. And some fond memories.
