British Wooden Ammo Box
Can anyone help me identify this ammo box? Its British or at least British Empire. Its made of wood with metal edges and hardware. What era is this from? I picked it up today at the local gunshop for $10.00 and I was wondering if I overpayed because it seemed cheap enough?

I don't think you over paid. These boxes are very nice to keep stuff in and have one in the gun room next to your rack of Lee Enfields. A standard US .50 cal ammo can is around 10 dollars retail these days. It is a fair deal.

I bought the brother of that ammo box some years ago. Almost the same date. Filled with some extraordinarily "click........bang" cartridges, unless they were set out in the sun for a bit, then it was "click..bang"... not the best

RL stands for Royal Laboratory .. in other words the Royal Arsenal Woolwich..
Mk 7 - not 7z, so cordite loaded - vintage stuff!
Small arms ammuniton is batched by it's work date.. If they are running more than one line that day, you get an A and a B.. the one you have to watch is 31 Dec - this work date is used to mark any part batches and lost id ammo lying about at the end of the year..
