Two STENs from the same Maquis

    Dear all,

I'm the proud owner of two STENs recently released by families from Résistance fighters of the Limousin area. Their serial numbers are pretty close.

I'm trying to identify what are the companies behind the stamped codes found here and then. Some are obvious, others not.

Also, I'm interested to know what was the process of assigning a serial number to the STENs. Was it done in one central location, for all STENs coming form all sources, or ranges of numbers were assigned to various companies.

I've lent one of them to a museum for a temporary exhibit about 1944 liberation of Franceicon.

Codes I've found are on the main parts of the STENs (not the mags):

    - B&T (?)
    - S&S (Deakins & Sons ?)
    - M67 (Monotype Corp.)
    - EIS (?)
    - S.68 (Lines Brothers)
    - 61 S (?)
    - S106 (?)

(In the meantime, I've ordered Peter Laidlericon's book on the STEN)

    Here are some pictures.

Both ASSEMBLED at Fazakerley where the serial numbers were allocated. You ought to spend a few hours browsing every mention of STEN on this forum as there's a lot of questions and answers including how the parts were collected from the manufacturers and taken to collection points and then on a priority basis to the assemblers.

    You will enjoy the book...............
