    Lee Enfield Butt Stock Length

When I fire my Mk4 my thumb is close to my nose and I occasionally get popped. I was told that there were different lengths of butt stocks to change the length from trigger to butt. I am a larger guy and this would make sense.

There are 4 sizes for the No4. Long, regular, short and bantam.

What size is on your rifle?

I don't know the length. I am 6'2" with a good wingspan and one thing is sure it isn't the long version. It may be regular or short. If I hold it comfortably my thumb is touching my nose. If I shot rimfire no problem but the kickback from the Mk4 has on occasion left me feeling like I was in a bar fight!!! I had the problem firing a friends Mosin Nagant. Does anyone know the lenghts in inches for normal or long?

If there is no L, S or B stamp on the buttstock, you have a Normal.

Possibly... or the mark was sanded off...

The lengths are 12 3/4" (Long), 12 1/4" (Regular), 11 3/4" (Short) and 11 1/4" (Bantam)... I BELIEVE. If someone has a different story, I'm willing to listen...

I'll put it this way, though... I think that there's something about the No 4/No 5 geometry that makes them more likely to whack thumbs. I've been whacked on the thumb by several No 4s, but never a No 1. And yes, I'm 6'5"...

I just got a couple of Longs from Tradeex. Decent condition CAL and even if they are not exactly correct change them to shoot and then change back afterwards. A long is only about 1/2" longer than a normal but every bit helps!
