I remember walking First St. Seattle in 1974 and seeing all those oversize instructional weapons in the surplus store windows. Rifle, carbine and 30 cal carbine...

Trainer aside, look at the size difference between the two soldiers! WOW!
There used to be a hardware store in Bakersfield called Floyds that had six or seven of these trainers, carbine, M1
rifle, BAR, M1919A4, M2, etc. They were all hanging from the ceiling all around the store. Very cool!

There was a story in St John New Brunswick a dozen and a half years ago about a school bus taking the kids to school one morning, the bus driver heard something unusual...he looked in the mirror and sees a kid with a 1928 Thompson. When questioned, the child was taking it for show and tell...when I was young, that would have been the sh*t for sure. Matter of fact, now too.
I know that wasn't what we were talking about, but still...

When I was in grammer school a long, long time ago, apparently in another galaxy, there would be a yearly school wide show and tell with each child bringing something to show. It is amazing how many WWII trophy firearms showed up including Mausers, Arisakas, P38s, P08s, and even a dewat Nambu machinegun. The school could have fit out a German company with weapons. They would be on display in the classroom and nobody thought anything was unusual. In high school every pickup truck, Jeep, and Powerwagon had a gun rack, usually with a shotgun or rifle during hunting season. I don't remember a single theft or threat or incident. It is a much different world today and I'm afraid we've lost something over the years.
