    Private George E. Satterfield, U.S. Signal Corps telephone operator, gets through to American forces advancing in Western Normandy after setting up a switchboard in an abandoned distillery in St. Lo, hinge city of the Nazi defense line in Western Normandy which was taken by American forces July 18, 1944. The signalmen who set up the board with Private Satterfield are Private Bernard Galiszwewski of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (left), and Corporal Harry J. Truner of Jersy City. New Jersey
