Cpl. Henry Bahe Jr. (left) and Pfc. George H. Kirk, Navajo code talkers, are shown operating a portable radio in this December 1943 U.S. Marine Corps photograph taken on the island Bougainville, part of present-day Papua New Guinea. The Senate debated Thursday, March 1, 2007, whether to expand a resolution calling for a postage stamp honoring Navajo code talkers to include code talkers from other tribes.
