I have a Krag 1899 Carbine
Its serial number is 281416. Made 1901? Would it be possible to take a SWAG on were it might have been used? Point me in the direction(s) and I will try and take the research from ther.... Thanks!e

AF,
You carbine could have been used in the Phillipines or Mexico. But it may have just sat in an armouy somewhere, too. No unit stamps? IIRC, sometimes SRS can identify units that a particular S/N was issued to, but not very often. Most of the unit records are gone, unfortunately. The only person I can think of who might be able to find your carbine's paper trail is 5MF. If he can't find the paper it probably doesn't exist.
But if you want to do some research, track down the cavalry, artillery and engineer units assigned to the Phillipines and o the Mexican Campaign.
Good luck!
