A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Exclamation

It's a regular signaller's telescope, not the observer's scope as generally issued to Britishicon snipers. We have a few of them lined up as MKLicon enties, just waiting to get their photo montages done.

Once they go up in the MKLicon, you'll be able to compare the eBay one to them. Depending upon availability, some units did use the signaller's scope in lieu of the sniper observers scope, as they are very similar except I believe for a difference in the power factor of the eyepiece.

Canadianicon snipers had their own issue observer's scope. With thanks to stencollector, here's the entry into the MKL showing the one they used.

I've been watching that one for a couple of months. He started it out for over US$600 and has re-listed it about four times since. It is a MkVI, the last model of the "Signallers" telescopes. I think the MkVI was produced from the mid twenties through to the start of WW2, although I will stand to be corrected on this. Even though it is in exc. condition (I've not seen a better MkVI Sig.) I would think the price is still $100 too high.

There are quite a few considerable differences between the "TEL. SIG. MkVI" (Signallers telescope) and the purpose built "TELE. SCT. REGTS. MKII" (Scout Regiment Telescope).

The Signallers were for general service issue and would have been used by snipers and observers up untill the Scout Regiment 'scopes were available.

I have three military telescopes (WW1 Sig. MkIV; Sig. MkVI and SCT REGT MKII) and a tripod (STD. INST. NO21 MkV) that was meant for use by signallers and observation posts and the like.

Here's pics of the TELE. SCT. REGT. and the 1915 TEL. SIG. MKIV

    Thumbs up

    Nice pieces Brad ....

Once we start getting more pics and data on all of these WW1 and WWII telescopes, we'll have to create some cross-referenced links into the MKLicon so we can get at the information easily.

The whole genre of these scopes is really interesting. My wife has some old military compasses from WW1 and earlier that go along with these old scopes as well.

    Badger

These telescopes usually go for 300-450 dollars. A friend of mine has one 1916 with spare eye piece and attached leather. Britishicon made very nice.
