Ankara 1903 Feeding Problem
Recently bought a 1903 Ankara long rifle with a 1934 receiver upgrade which converted it to 8mm Mauser. The rifle has a rough appearance but shoots fine with one exception. With soft points there is no issue, but using surplus rounds especially, the tip of the bullet gets stuck under the front of the magazine and can't slide up. It only happens to non soft points because they're just a tiny bit longer. Is this a problem with the conversion? or is it something that can be fixed? I can't seem to find anyone else having this problem, so it could just be the rough shape of the rifle

I take it you don't reload or you could just touch the bullets with a seating die to move them back?

I almost never reload for the 8mm, usually just buy 20 rounds of PPU soft point, problems arise with most other rounds

Remove bolt, magazine floor plate, spring and follower and check for:
1. Gap between magazine box and bottom of reciever just below feed ramp. Much of a gap will let the sharply pointed fmj rounds hang up while the blunt tipped sp's will be more apt to ride over it. If theres a gap disassemble the rifle and make sure the mag box is fitted correctly. When ready to reassemble turn the barreled action trigger up and fit the mag box in place then set the stock down over it being careful not to disturb the mag box. Next, with the rifle still upside down replace the trigger guard assembly and hold it in place while you replace the action screws. Once the screws are properly tightened replace the follower, spring and floor plate last after double checking the mag box fit.
2.magazine box is bent letting the action bottom form a ledge just below the feed ramp. If this is the case disassemble and straighten the mag box so theres a smooth transition between it and reciever.
