I'm guessing you'll show us when it's done Andy? After all, we've been watching for how long? Three or so years?

yep its been along time...... but its nice to be getting the original parts together, and I have a day job (that can get me access to the pattern room collection ) there is very little left to find or make. I may finish it before I retire from the day job.

I haven't got one Andy but the cover was made from a taper rolled sheet of spring steel. Should be easy to roll if you anneal, harden and then temper (or just use mild steel if you're interested in the aesthetics as opposed to the realities of things) The edges of the rolled cover had small protrudances that would grip into recesses in the sight rail. This allowed the cover to be slid forwards/backwards.
These unit sights were only marginally less to make than a 2x sight plus they had to be moisture tight and MOST of all, squaddie proof which meant that they were heavily sealed. For that sight, it was roll sealed (?the ones at Warminster seemed to be roll sealed) so were non maintainable. Defeated the object a bit. The only real benefit was that it put the grat onto the image so there was no parallax.
Sorry to ramble!

I was wondering who won that sight,
If your lucky, sometimes the cover, minus the sight appears on eBay. The covers have no practicable use for anything else other than mounting the Unit Optic Sights.

Yep, there's the little protuberances/flanges shown clearly on KtK's pictures. Should be quite easy(?) to roll one up over a turned wood mandril I'd suggest. You can always rely on KtK to come up trumps with L1A1 info!

If anyone can ever come up with the optic for a CDN Ex 2, (or X8E2) I would probably be willing to pay an unreasonable amount of money for it. I have the dust cover and all the other parts to complete my CDN Ex 2.
Thanks

Have you shown us pics of this grail Walt? We'd sure appreciate it. Specially since I was around them when I was very young, they were still around me that is.

Is your Ex2 cut for a C1 type folding charging handle?

It's the top one of the three photos shown above.
Thanks.

It doesn't appear to be.
