FN and HVA Commercial Actions
Hello, All,
I have the chance to purchase a FN or a HVA commercial large ring M98 action for a custom build. I have heard only good things about the Belgian FN 's but what about the Swedish HVA (Husqvarna) actions? The HVA is is in better shape than the FN action in this case and needs no polishing or re-bluing. If any one knows any negative aspects of these actions I'd sure appreciate your input.
Thanks.
Tim Clarke

The HVA actions I am familiar with are not large ring, but are based on the old Mauser Model 96. Husqvarna originally used large ring FN actions, then designed their own with the same ring size as the Mauser 96. Their first HVA action was close to the military, but the later one is an entirely new design. a push feed with dovetail locking lugs.
I would say that any of those actions would give excellent service, but getting parts and accessories for the HVA actions might be difficult as they are not made any more.

I have heard some of the early M98 Husky receivers are actually German with Husky markings. Very good receivers. I believe the later Husky products were made in Sweden. Again, very good products.

I have an early FN that I built into a 338-06 with a Douglas barrel, Timney trigger and Hogue stock, the only thing I don't like is the Bueller style saftey. Someday I would like to convert it to a model 70 style.
