1941 Lithgow SMLE.
Just picked up an all matching Lithgow. Every bit of this example matches, barrel, receiver, nosecap, stock, even the rear sight. Buttstock reads:
MA
LITHGOW
HV III
1941
Then 6 44
There is a 5 over the matching serial number as well as a 5 on top of the receiver. 5th military district?
Next to my Peddle Scheme, this is what appears to be the most original LE I own. And then I saw it............the feared Jon Jovino stamp barely visible on the right side of the charger bridge. I've always heard this lot put together rifles from bits and pieces. This however seems a legit firearm. Even the number under the bolt handle corresponds to the number on the receiver. Quite pleased with this 'un.

Sounds like a good gun so don't worry about that jjco stamp. I've got heaps of very good quality unmolestered guns with it present as well.

Unfortunately, it's gotten to be part of the embedded mythology in some circles that a JJCo stamp automatically means a bitser. Not so. Jovino also imported a large number of perfectly legit rifles from Down Under. As Demo says, it sounds like a perfectly good rifle. On of the usual tells with a JJCo bitser is a serial number that doesn't match any known Australian numbering scheme (4 digit s/n with an 'A' suffix for example).
