Gew98 w/ Dust Cover ( Warning: Lots of Pictures)
Poor old Gew98's been feeling neglected so I thought I'd let it out to "play" at bit...
Rifle from the trenches. Not matching (front band, handguard, front action screw, and bolt sleeve- otherwise OK), but it's been in this configuration for a VERY long time.
GEW98s just don't get a lot of attention, so here goes!

What can you say but WOW!!! What a beautiful old GEW98 that's got to have a lot of history. And also, it hasn't been molested and refinished. Very nice.
I have never seen the action cover like that before. Neat how it opens with the action. Does it allow ejection of the spent cartridge OK?
Thanks for sharing!!!

The cover wasn't too popular for some reason, but, no, it doesn't interfere in any way with the working of the rifle. It's the only one I've seen as well, but it languished in a local gunshop for some time before I bought it 15-20 years ago.
Every one seems to get all excited about K98a's and all sorts of other odd Mausers, but I've always liked the basic infantry rifles of whatever nation.

Hey, Jmoore,
That is really a nice G98! The trigger guard screws aren't even boogered.
I'll post some pics of mine next few days. This is the rifle that shortened a couple of my great-uncles' lives.

The more the merrier, I reckon!
Mr. Norstog, a great-uncle of mine was killed by gas whilst serving in a machinegun crew w/ the AEF.
