mystery mark no4mk1*
Picked up this 44 longbranch mk1* about two weeks ago, two things i havent seen before and cant find anything on,
first is this marking on top of the reciever, tried searching the forums on it couldnt find anything that matched. Attachment 47285
The other is the front barrel band, ive never seen one like this, the stamped ones ive seen didnt have the ledge around the screw tabs, i assumed it was just another version because of the year and the fact the rifle also has a stamped rear sight, but i cant find pics of any other rifle with one like it. no markings on it that i can see either.Attachment 47287

I think it is just yet another wartime production variant. I have had a few as spares & IIRC have a No4 T that wears one. I don't think they are incredibly scarce, but neither are they that common, at least in my experience.

Can you get an in-focus picture of the mark? It looks a bit like a triangle, one version of which is an Iraqi property mark.
The front band is a normal variant.

Sorry, just realised my posting could be interpreted ambiguously - I was of course referring to the front band.

ill try to get a better pic, but that one actually shows it all, just a triangle, not marks in or around it, the iraqi marks are the only ones i found in my search but they all had a symbol in them that looks like a upside down 2 and all seemed alot larger.
i did find one other post that mentioned a triangle are a armorers mark for a crack test but no pictures or other details and no other references to it anywhere.

any idea what it means, oddly no ownership marks on the rifle other than original proof marks that i can find, either it was scrubbed or never got them, also doesnt have the normal english 303 barrel markings from when they left service.
