Snider Enfield Mark II*

I was finally able to check the Snider off my list on Saturday. I need to find a front band for it. Cleaning rod I have already located. Breech is very tight and bore is near flawless. I don't know a lot about these so any info would be welcome.





No idea what the DD stands for. Resembles the DC mark for Dominion of Canada but obviously isn't that.

Aragorn: Neat rifle! It has the general appearance of an Indian used gun with all the metal finish polished off (above and below the wood) but has the Canadian <DD> ownership mark. The "DC" looks to me a little cruder than some. As you know, it's an Enfield conversion (Jan, 1867) of an Enfield manufactured P53. Publications indicate that the Mk II* rifles were rifles identical to the Mk I* (none of the Mk II** upgrades) but every Enfield converted example I've seen has the improved Mk II** extractor design. BSA Mk II* rifles all have the distinctive Mk I extractor. Yours still has the proper flat hammer face. The block to shoe fit looks excellent which is usually the first thing I look for as a lot of them suffered from having the block pried open at some point. Are there any unit markings on the wood or metal (buttplate tang).

Only markings not shown in photos are on the butt plate tang. 17 over 164 although on closer inspection they probably are I 7 over I 64
