It may be a Shirley ,ftr at F, rec.stamped,no4 mk1 (F) FTR,. Serial S35920

I'd agree that sounds quite likely. Just odd having a prefix & an apparent suffix. If it is a BSA Shirley, bearing a 'S' prefix, it would date from the beginning of 1945. Is the 'F' a little way removed from the rest of the serial number?

Yes, the (F) stamp is to the right of the serial .#number then FTR. I looked on the wrist metal it stamped m47C which, Marstar says is BSA Shirley Birmingham! Thanks for help all. The 1946 stamp looks like there was a 4 or 5 under the 6 stamp.

Ah Yes! A lot of young ladies were bowled over by the GI's! I'm in the West Midlands, just a few miles from where your BSA rifle was made. There's a 'Toys R Us' retail outlet on the Shirley factory site now........sign of the times.

Mom made bomb fuses, was there in the Biltz. Uncle Bill was on Dunkirk, Uncle Lenard was on the HMS Illustrias ,buried in Egypt, Alexandria's in the Med. Mom talked of the bombing ,rations, buzz bombs. God Bess! Uncle Bill came to states 3 times. He died in the late 80's. When he was here ,he loved to shoot. He did the waking fire with the Enfield. Loved shooting the cowboy guns!
