Is this the original blue finish on this Johnson Rifle?
Did they come with this finish?

No sir, they weren't polished and blued. They were finished more like the bayonet present. Parkerizing was the normal. That one even shows the lines from polishing and rebluing. It could be resurrected though, with a bead blast and parkerize. Provided you get the shade right.

Some magazine covers and small parts were blued sometimes, but the rest ought to be phosphated.
Sorry for the lack of detailed photos. For some reason this rifle is camera shy.

some trivia...did you know the barrel for a 1941 Johnson, is just a standard 1917 Enfield barrel?? look at the breach, youll see the notch for an extractor..
the mag box was left blued originally, im guessing they found it works better when blued vs beadblast and parkerized.

I'll tell you for a fact Walt that it's not original. Not even close. If you want to know how, let's not clog this thread, PM me and I'll tell you.

Umm, yes! Don't refinsh! Except as a last resort. I did not mean to imply that GUTS should DO anything, just that the rifle wasn't out the factory door (the first time at least) as it now exists. But it might be "correct" as a post war civilian sales "Winfield" or similar. It could be just part of it's history. But it seems shinier than usual for a Winfield. Stock is suspect. AND it didn't sell...So it's NOT as expensive as somebody thinks!

Oh, go ahead and clog! It's not like we get to go on about the M16's great granddaddy all that often.

In addition to being re-blued it looks like the stock has been refinished with some type of polyurethane.

The stock may have been tru-oiled. With enough coats, it looks like that.
