1953 M3 AC .50 Caliber MG - Canadian Issue
Purchased this very cool deactivated .50 Cal from the same seller that had the Maxim I posted. I got one hell of a deal for both guns so I couldn't pass them up. This one is in aircraft configuration...possibly from a Canadair Sabre. It looks really good on display in the man cave.

I have the M2AC Cutaway version and I have to agree they make good displays. I also have a M2HB but it's longer than the AC and although it looks 'The Business' it's not a good display piece.

How many of the parts move on this example or is it welded up solid apart from the top cover?

All the torch cuts are in the same places as every other example from the time. I had an M2 converted to M3 that I resurrected as an M2HB. I have pics here someplace...it was gorgeous after... It started as one like yours.

That's pretty much it.

Note the L in the serial number for Longbranch, since it was made by Canadian Arsenals Ltd.
These aircraft guns used to be available from Crown surplus in Calgary for under $100 back in the 80s.
In 2000 I saw two that had been converted over to M2HB in Canadian service, then upgraded into the quick change barrel configuration. The trunnion and I believe the top plates had been replaced with M2 type. On one, the M3 AC basic markings were barred out and replaced with M2HB, on the other the markings had been left as is.

I let my little boy Robert, then about 14 or so shoot a big Browning from the top of a 432 (M113) over the field firing range several years ago. I let him have a long burst and he asked me '.....how long a burst dad.....' The gunner sat inside the cupola shouted over to me, sat on the top, '......... tell him each bang is costing a £1 each sir.....' I didn't want him to be greedy, so I limited him to 50!
±He's still got two of the cases that he forgot to declare and hand in. As you do when you're 14.

£1 a round would be a bargain over here. I have a semi auto model of the M2HB. When I go to the range with it, I limit myself to just one can of 100 rounds on the belt. $600 (gone in about 20 minutes) is enough fun for one morning.
I work for the local military museum. We took the M113A2 to an indoor display for the week. I put a deactivated 50 on top, and we would let kids (some of them were almost 6 feet tall I might add) into the carrier and have their photo taken in the crew commander's hatch with the 50 and a helmet on. The line-up at times was over 30 kids.

"I have no live rounds or empty cases"...

We had to change the barrel support too, the lug for the barrel was in the top. The barrel was the other critical. Then all parts had to be mated and stay together.
The gun pictured that I built up was already an M2 with filler block in the sight slots and the inside parts, in the top were simply missing. The trigger bar and so on. The rest is there to convert back to M2 if needed.
