    Information sought

I have a request and this forum seems to attract a higher percentage of views so if I may be so bold can it be left here Badger.
This was from my brothers estate when he passed in 1990 at the age of 43 and kept by my b/inlaw until I matured enough to have them, as I was too much into fast bikes and fast women at that point in time.
So I have had them for about 6 years now I think it is time to try and find a bit about them as I feel that is what my brother was going to do and I sought of owe it to him.
    I have tried and blanked out so has another source one;
    > Russell Linwood, ASM
    > McDOWALL QLD 4053
Lieutenant Colonel - Australianicon Army History Unit Senior
Vice-President (Operations) RUSIQ Honorary Fellow ACHSM (Queensland)
Sessional Academic Griffith University Visiting Fellow QUT
And have had not input yet on either.

So I am seeking information on 2 service personnel a father and son I have the fathers papers from when he was enisted in the Seaforth Highlanders and for his son I have a note book on a course he attended as a Lt at Duntroon in NSW Nov 9 - 20th 1914.
The father is William Buchan 3093 (See pic) who enlisted on the 10th Sept 1889 at Caithness! age 19 years and 2 months whose last place of residence was Wick.
    He was stationed in Rawalipindi E India in 1892 ~ 1893 the Ishapore 1894 ~ 1895

    His son W F S E Buchan Lt "A"Coy 84th Infantry Kalgoorlie.
Any help would be greatly appreciated by myself

Mikes close to the money, do an archive search, click record search and enter details, you will locate the son pretty quick.
    NAA B2455 (BARCODE 313437 covers 1914/18 ) and NAA B4717 (BARCODE 3134382 for 1940/41.
For the father you need to search the Brit files or provide a bit more info.

I will have a go Muffet but the writing is pretty hard to decipher I try not to handle the document to often as it came into his possession (William Buchan) in 1889 so its a tad frail. I thought the fathers Serial No. would make it easier and how do I search the Britishicon archives most places want you to join for a fee.

Cinders, a few minutes on Trove gave me most of the answers and a bloody good laugh.
I won't go into details for the forum but in less than half an hour, I had over 15 newspaper articles on both dad and son.
Dads initials were the same as the son......a Jnr. I guess, the date range I looked at were from 1905 to 1934, and ranged from work articles, dad as a preacher giving lectures, to the son prior to joining the military and his years on the Roads Board, to post war Lecturing and Employment positions.
A couple of articles had me in fits of laughter, especially one Correspondence article from the Evening Star 18 jan. 1918.
All the articles I looked at were from WA papers. There were numerous other articles I skipped over.
If you have trouble locating any of the files or articles I have mentioned, PM me and I will download them for you.

Well Cinders, I am absolutely amazed.
I very rarely get involved in someone elses research, but this time I am glad I did.
Being unable to get a good copy of some of these files, I resorted to printing them off to improve the quality to a readable stage.
So you will need to send me your postal details so I can send them on.

You should be very proud of your heritage, reading the histories as I copied them showed a dedication by individuals not often seen.
To be awarded the highest decoration for services rendered by a foreign country for services rendered during WW1, to spend so much time as a civil servant and then become a politician...........Good one Cinders.

No its not a relative its like Mike said for my brother and B inlaw I am sure my brother would have done the same I have some WWI medals he brought and will have to see if they are named Buchan and for my b/in law as I will give him a copy a small thing to do considering what he went through on his asian holiday in 1969-70 plus he tried to save my brother but it was all over before he hit the floor so thats that.

Mind you I may be related distantly to old Iron Arse Curtis E Le May now that would be a real surprise considering the surname we share.......
