Here is a diagram of where the mark should be.

My Eddystone is in the back of the safe, but I can probably post a photo
tomorrow if no one else does before that.

I know where to look but...
The one I have, I am trying to decide if it is an "E" or and "R" as the stamp is very light . I Know they are common but I have never seen an Eddystone... just Winchester and Remington... Was the "E" a serifed font or sans serif?

I believe it's a serifed font. I know the P14 is seriffed with a very distinctive "R" on Remington components. I assume the P17 is the same. I'll double check tomorrow on my Eddystone when I'm back at my "cache".

Sorry I haven't had a chance to dig mine out yet, but if all you are trying to do is determine the manufacture between Eddystone or Remington, it is easy. All Remington trigger guards will have a eagles head inspection stamp on the outside of the guard, just behind the front guard screw hole. Eddystone will have the eagles head inspection stamp on the left side just behind the floor plate opening. If the floor plate is on, the Eddystone eagles head inspection stamp will be covered by the rear of the floor plate. The Remington eagles head inspection stamp is always visible even with the floor plate on and will be between the front of the floor plate and the front trigger guard screw hole.
