RCN 1927 Rifle team
Hi all,
Just thought I would share this photo with you.
It is of the 1927 RCN Rifle team. The key things to note are all the rifles are basically new No.1 Mk. 3* rifles and that there are only 3 Seamen on the team, the rest are Officers (might be a bit of a old boys club).

I see 4 petty officers (less ornate cap badges) and 4 commissioned officers, and of course the able seamen.
In 1927 the only rifle allowed for use was the SMLE. That was true from 1920 to 1934. The P14 was not allowed for competition until 1935.
Neat picture, the Webleys "almost" look like MK V pistols, not MK VI, but I suppose it is the picture resolution Upon a more careful examination, it is clear the pistols are MKVI pattern.

Sorry about the resolution, I just grabbed a quick photo with my phone. I do think it is interesting that they have the No. 1 Mk. 3* instead of the No. 1 Mk. 3s which had all the fancier windage adjustments (and post war they started to make No. 1 Mk. 3s with the cut-off again).

At one time, the navy had as fine rifle teams as went to field and the air force could still show you how drill was done. That was a different time for sure...
