Martially marked Stevens 87A
Images of a martially marked Stevens 87A. What do you guys think? I hope you can see the ordnance bombs on the barrel ( behind the sight ) and the one on the receiver. Steve

These are somewhat of a mystery as to why they are. There is rumor that they might have been produced for military testing , but no records can be found to prove this. There has been a thread running over on the Parallax bills gun forum for years now. Address is below :
Springfield 87M in Military 22 Caliber Target & Training Firearms Forum
For several reasons , I'm afraid I will have to tell you the markings are added fakes.
1) No records of being adopted , issued , or used by any of the armed forces.
2) No serial numbers used . While legal at the time these were made , the military would require one for record keeping as to where it was and who has it.
3) Your stampings in the wood look to new.
4) The RA-P marking is a rebuild marking and this type of gun would have never gone through such a process.
5) No trace of the eagle and three star stamp in a box used in this time period.
Still , they are neat looking guns and the action is unique. They remind me more of the WW2 German "Garand" type gun that was so common in the TV series of "Combat " .
While they can be found , they are uncommon , but do have a small following.
Enjoy it for what it is , I do mine.

Very well stated and my thoughts exactly. Just someone using available stamps to make a extra dollar. Shame to as the rifle is forever tainted now with the faked stamps.
