Advice needed: How could I find a USGI M1 Carbine in Canada?

    Hi,

I have decided to buy my first milsurp - a USGI M1icon Carbine. However I looked around and around and around, and couldn't find a single one for sale.

Could anyone give me some advice on how I could find one of these sweet little guns?

Thanks in advance for any tips.

    Terry

I'd suggest you watch the ads here in the Quartermaster Stores and also the EE over at CGN.

Also, I'd recommend you post a WTB (Want to buy) ad in the Quartermaster Stores to see if anyone possibly has one sitting in the safe they'd like to sell to get some extra Christmas money...

    Regards,
    Badger

They come up every once in a while, but there are some hoarders around who like to snatch them up when they come up. You have to be quick when they pop, or get your WTB answered.

Good choice on milsurp though, never anything wrong with a good ol' M1icon carbine!

Make sure when you get one to post it so everyone can bask in its ammunificence.

There is one for sale on the CGN EE right now, although the stock is a post war set.

Only problem is that its not a USGI, but it will get you in the club until you can trade up.

Also, don;t turn your nose up at a nice plainfield unless you plan to keep it original and restricted in Canadaicon. Plainfields are all GI except the receiver and work GREAT. I've had a few of them and liked them all (Badger has my last one!). You can;t ask for a better non-GI platform to put a 18.5" barrel onto!

I've never had any of the commercials, but like Claven said, of the bunch, Plainsfield is top of the pile, late Universals the bottom.

    Thanks for all the replies.

I saw the one on sale on EE of CGN. It was a Universal. Cheap, but I don't want it.

A nice gentleman on CGN offered to sell me a mid-war Winchester M1icon Carbine in nice condition, with a new unrestricted barrel installed. The price is high - more than $600. But I like it and it seems to me that it is my only chance to get one before Christmas.

I guess I will break my bank to buy it......

    Any suggestions or advice?

This is the one I am talking about:

    Terry,
For some reason the software flagged your post as spam. I've sorted that out. Photobucket isn't the problem as I use it all the time.

Looks nice $600 is fair considering the bbl is $150 plus the gunsmithing to install it and headspace.
