Cleaning/refinshing a M39

I have a Finn M39 that has a lot of crud/dirt and a bit of damage to the stock. She looks barely used. I want to clean her up a bit, let her shine again .
The damage (looks like someone before me dropped her on something sharp ) I'll lightly file/sand. Not to cover-up, just blend in a bit. As for the finish, what did the Finn's use? BLO?

The fins used pine tar, sometimes with oil rubbed in afterwards.

The Finns used a concoction of.... Equal parts beeswax, turpentine, and boiled linseed oil..... there is a guy that makes and sells it... "Tom's 1/3 Mix"

I use it on all my milsurps now. Works great on any gun that would have normally had an oil finish.. which is most of them.

Previously I used BLO (Boiled lindseed oil), or at times "truoil" (on the trueoil I always knock the gloss down with steel wool. no shiny finsh Milsurps for me. That just looks tacky!)

I recommend the Tom's 1/3 mix highly! It can be used as a protectant on a gunstock, OR as the finish itself. Great stuff easy to use and goes a long way!
